We Americans are the most overfed, under-nourished country in the world. We thrive on fast food, and society has convinced us that we don't have time to eat healthily.
We Americans are the most over fed under nourished country in the world. We thrive on fast food and society has convinced us that we DON’T have time to eat, much less eat healthy. Not true, we have all the time we need. It comes down to choices, and we choose to eat high fat processed foods. Having worked in the area of wellness for over 13 years I have discovered there are three barriers when it comes to eating healthy:
1. Cost
2. Convenience
3. Commitment
People believe it costs too much to eat fruits and vegetables. This is simply not true. You can eat 17 fruits and veggies a day for $1.33 a day. That is $40.00 per month. Wouldn’t you rather spend $40.00 on prevention than hundreds of dollars on prescriptions that treat chronic lifestyle induced diseases? Wholefood supplements is how.
People also have this misconception that it is not convenient to eat healthy. We have allowed ourselves to believe fast food is the only convenient food. For years I have heard people say it’s just not convenient to pack a healthy lunch. Well, I guess when you are laid up in a hospital bed from a heart attack from clogged arteries that won’t be convenient either? Put some thought into your body and what you feed it. You wouldn’t put fuel in your car that was cheap and inefficient would you? Isn’t your body far more valuable than your car? Put premium fuel in like, fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats, not burgers, fries, and soda. Bottom-line: You get out what you put in. It’s your choice.
Last but not least - Commitment, the word everyone is afraid of. Why? because the definition of commitment is as follows:
"Commitment: The state of being bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action or to another person or persons."
So if I commit to something I am bound to it. And what does being bound to something mean? It means to be confined, under moral obligation, determined, and resolved. Sounds like a lot of work, doesn’t it? Your mother was right when she said nothing easy is free. If it was everyone would be doing it. I will not lie: in the world we live in eating healthy takes determination and resolve. But if we put the energy into committing to eat healthier that we put into our job, our investment portfolio, and our hobbies, we would not live in a country where over 60 % of the population is either overweight or obese.
Quit making excuses and for once in your life decide to do something and do it with all the blood, sweat and tears you have in you. I mean really, this is the only body you have, there are no second chances.
