One of the most important areas of the body to protect that some people disregard are one's eyes. Without proper care, individuals can undergo intensive eye damage.

In order to safeguard one’s self from cataracts disease or other eye ailments, it’s imperative to start protecting eyes from an early time. Take daily vitamins, wear protective eye wear when doing dangerous jobs and wear sunglasses or hats to cover eyes while in direct sunlight. The worst thing to do to one’s self is to never invest in prescription sunglasses and to continue to wear normal eye glasses when in the sun. These specialized types of sunglasses don’t have to break the band and are often times covered by insurance carriers.

Prescription sunglasses are also available for those who currently wear prescriptive eye wear but need to also protect their eyes when in direct sunlight. Those who are near-sighted or are far sighted can greatly benefit from prescription sunglasses, as well as those who need single vision lenses or progressive no line, bifocal or trifocal lenses. No matter how complicated the prescription, the most skilled optometrist will be able to accommodate lens needs, along with preferences in frames and lens tints.

UV glare and protection is one of the top components to keep in mind when investing in prescription sunglasses. Look for sunglass manufacturers that offer 100 percent UV and glare protection and a frame that best suits the shape of one’s face. Some people believe that they should invest in the most expensive glass frame because of the name brand or the style of frame. However, before spending too much on a luxury brand of sunglasses, try on a few pairs of generic frames that fit comfortably and will offer eye protection. Just because a pair of glasses is expensive and ornate, it doesn’t mean there aren’t other, more affordable styles that can be just as efficient.

When doing your prescription sunglass shopping, remember to bring the current prescription and try on numerous pairs of sunglasses. Pick out frames in a variety of colors, sizes and shapes and even ask the optometrist for personal recommendations that will suit the face. Once a personal preference in sunglass frame has been determined, look into pricing options and determine how much the insurance company will cover, if any. The optometrist or sunglass warehouse specialist will be able to properly adjust the frames to suit and the order will be sent off to the manufacturer or created in house. The sunglasses should be ready for a pick up within a few days or a couple of weeks.

Remember to have routine eye exams each year with a certified optometrist and always wear prescription sunglasses to protect eyes from harmful UV rays from the sun. It’s better to preventative when it comes to caring for eyes, rather than repairing them later in life.
