People today are so busy they don't know what they are doing half the time. Your body is on a clock and it could be nearing the time for you to get your eyes examined. Do you play computer games online at night after working on a computer all day? Well if this is you, please read on to learn why you should have your eyes examined. When we were children, our parents often had a pre-scheduled appointment for our eyes, health check-ups and dentistry work. Now, however since we have all grown up; it's up to us to make sure we see the appropriate doctors at the right time. When was the last time you were in to see your eye doctor? Generally you should see your eye doctor every two years for an annual visit. Sometimes those visits can change, as your vision gets better or worse. As people age, the visit to the eye doctor is on a more annual schedule. People over 60 often see the eye doctor every year to check for certain diseases. Do All Eye Infections have Symptoms? There is but one simple answer to this question and I bet you can answer it! The answer is no. Oddly enough, our eyes are often the one part of our bodies that is worked the most and given less of a break. Eye infections usually do not have any symptoms! The infections can occur instantly or develop over a series of days. Glaucoma - a very serious eye disease leads to loss of sight and can happen almost instantly. Many ophthalmologists call this disease the thief of sight. Diabetics can occasionally develop diabetic retinopathy - which leads to the bleeding of the eye and retinal detachments. Gradual eye sight obstruction or impairment is usually in the form of cataracts and macular degeneration. These three things that happen over a life span are the main reasons for which you should be going to the ophthalmologist! How do Eye Infections Affect People?Depending on your age, the level of interference you can receive from eye infections can be very serious. In young children, vision obstruction can lead to learning difficulties. Problems like lazy eye and eye turn - both can lead to loss of sight. If treated early in their lives, children can come out of eye diseases and infections with flying colors. Atopic kerato-conjunctivitis affects teenagers in their late teens to mid twenties and can continue to haunt them if they have asthma. This eye infection is a form of a severe eye allergy that can affect the lower lining of the lid and the cornea. Common triggers for this infection are animal dander, dust and sometimes foods. Teens with this infection also may have allergic conjunctivitis - this is where the skin around the eye is red and consistently puffy. The skin will become more sensitive and hurt during an onset of triggers. Often teens and young adults suffer with light sensitivity and blurred vision. With infections such as these on the loose, it is important to remind children and adults to wash their hands well, especially after digging in the dirt or using the restroom. Help yourself stay healthy and well. Wash your hands and body frequently. Related Articles: Why You should Clean your Colon References: WebMD National Institutes of Health
